Bathsheba Bowens Memorial Park is named for a local resident who passed away at the age of 17. She was a choir singer and church member at Sandy Grove Baptist Church.

In her short life, she left a lasting impression on the community. Bathsheba Bowens was a role model. Her family was well known in the Charlotte area. The city was fortunate to have her as a part of its history.

Born in Due West, South Carolina, Crain Woods was the youngest son of a farmer and housewife. He attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina after graduating high school. After his education, he served on the Clarendon County Department of Education as a teacher and coach. In 1967, he was elected to the Charlotte City Council. During his tenure on the council, he also served as a member of the city’s All Aboard Committee.
